VFD Panels
VFD panels house variable frequency drives to control motor speed and torque, improving process control and reducing energy consumption.
Overview
About VFD Panels
A variable frequency drive controls the speed of an AC motor by changing the frequency and voltage supplied to it. Instead of running at full speed and throttling the output with a valve or damper, the motor runs only as fast as the process needs. On fans and pumps in particular, a modest reduction in speed gives a large reduction in power use, which is why drives are widely used to save energy as well as to control the process.
A VFD panel houses the drive together with the protection, control circuitry and terminals it needs, so the drive can be installed, ventilated and serviced properly. Drives produce heat, so enclosure ventilation or cooling is part of the design, and they also give soft starting, which limits starting current and mechanical stress on the motor and the driven equipment. Prime Volt Systems builds VFD panels to IS / IEC 61439, to the drive and motor details you specify.
